We have many sizes, styles and colours from which you can choose just the right monument. The following is a quick overview of the different styles of monuments. We have included photos of monuments as well so you can see the difference in the styles. We have also included a few priced monuments to give you an idea of cost. Cost is dependent on the size, type of monument, type of granite and engraving.
- Markers and Bevels
Markers are flat and are not placed on a base. Standard Markers range in width from 20 to 54 inches and range in length (top to bottom) from 10 to 20 inches. Standard Markers are 6 to 8 inches thick. Bevels are a hybrid of the Marker and the Slant. Bevels lay flat but the entire bevel is raised higher than the Marker and the face is slightly slanted. Bevels may also be referred to as “Pillows”. Standard Bevels range in width from 20 to 54 inches and in height (top to bottom) from 10 to 16 inches. Standard Bevels are 6 to 12 inches thick. Bevels may or may not be placed on a base.
Slants are a type of Upright which are thicker at the bottom and have a slanted face, usually a 45 degree slope. Standard Slants range in width from 16 to 48 inches and range in height from 12 to 18 inches. Standard Slants range from 8 to 12 inches thick at the base. Slants may or may not be placed on a base.
These are also called headstones, tops, dies or tablets. Uprights consist of two pieces, the “die” or “tablet” and the “base”. Standard Uprights range in width from 24 to 72 inches and range in height from 18 to 32 inches. A single Upright can be used for one or two people. In days gone by very tall Uprights were more common. The trend has been away from these very tall Uprights as they are easier to topple and more susceptible to vandalism.
Wings are a type of upright monument which have two separate “dies” or “tablets” set on either side of a base. The center between the dies may be plain, decorated with a vase or have a small die. Standard Wings range in width from 66 to 78 inches and in height from 18 to 20 inches. Generally Wings are used for two people, with any center die being engraved with the surname, a design, verse or perhaps a date. Each side wing is then engraved with the information of one person.
- Crosses, Angels and Hearts
These are monuments which have been carved into a cross, angel or heart shape. They range in size and may be for one or two persons. These monuments are placed on a base.
